Dan Epstein received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2008. His research focuses on political parties, electoral competition, and political culture in developing countries in Eastern Europe and Latin America, with particular focus on Russia and Brazil. His work has appeared in Party Politics and Region: Regional Studies of Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, of which latter he also serves on the editorial board. He has worked with International IDEA: The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, and for the OSCE's Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, as an election observer in Russia. Before coming to Texas Tech University, Dr. Epstein was an Assistant Professor at Colgate University. He also served for a term as a visiting professor at Bryansk State University in Russia as part of the Fulbright Scholars Program, worked on the staff of a major candidate in the 2016 presidential primaries, and taught economics at Piedmont Virginia Community College.
Dr. Epstein is the Director of the online education program for the Department of Political Science.
